FIRST STREETSALES EXPERIENCE!

On the 29th of May, we conducted our very first street sale! Being excited and worried that things might not run smoothly, we decided to meet up an hour beforehand to decorate our booth. At 9am (1st shift) and 1pm (2nd shift), volunteers from our school were streaming in. Thankfully, they listened to our instructions and lined up accordingly to make the distribution process smoothly. We were really glad as the response was great and many volunteers turned up! :)

We had a banner which wrote our slogan : “Roses are red, violets are blue, why not donate and be cool" It was really colourful and attractive. Many people walked by and stared at our banner and smiled at us.

Due to it being our first streetsale, we didn't know that we had to apply license for setting up a booth at Far East Plaza! When we started giving out the roses, donation bags to the volunteers, the security guard came and stopped us. She said that in order to do fundraising, etc, we will have to apply for license in far East, if not we weren't allowed. In, the end, we decided not to sell the Singapore cancer society merchandises and set up a booth, hence, we told her that this is only a distribution point. A place to distribute the things to the volunteers. Even this wasn't allowed. But, seeing that this was our first time, the security guard told us to hurry distribute the donation bags, etc.

Later on, we went to KFC to grab a bite and also, make more roses brooches. Later on, we realised that staying in KFC for the whole day wasn't a good idea (as it has caused great inconvenience to the public as we had a lot of things with us making us using 2 tables). Hence, we decided to go to the Orchard MRT station subway as it is a public facility and we are permitted to use it as indicated in our license given by the YMCA.

Sales were not really good there as the people there were all rushing. Many people shoved us away and kind-hearted ones, gave us a smile and said no thanks. Hence, we did not manage to sell a lot of merchandises. When it was about 6pm, all the volunteers were back. We are really happy as most of the donation bags weighed. We felt relief as we were worried that we couldn't raise a lot of money due to the bad response given by the sales of merchandise. It was perhaps because we didn't have a good destination. When all the volunteers were back, we packed up and left the place, swearing that we will apply for license as soon as possible so as not to receive such lousy response. We had a fruitful experience. :)
